¿Por qué hago cine? La verdad es que nunca me hice esta pregunta de una manera tan concreta. Me parece, en primer lugar, que hago cine para dejar asentada una confirmación de mi existencia, de la existencia del mundo que me rodea. Hay un poema de Fernando Pessoa, musicalizado por Luis Aute, que dice: “Ah, el mundo es lo que a él traemos / todo existió porque existí / hay porque vemos. / ¡Y hay mundo porque yo lo vi!”. Ese “mundo” no está compuesto sólo por luces, colores, texturas, sonidos, no se trata sólo de mi punto de vista, es algo más que una percepción sensorial, comprende también una percepción sentimental y racional de lo que me circunda.
Esa percepción es contradictoria, parcial, imperfecta; esencialmente humana.
Concluyo entonces que hago cine porque es la manera que he encontrado para ser humano y que alguien más que yo pueda darse cuenta.

Why do I make films? I’ve never ask myself that question so seriously. At first, I think I make films to confirm my existence and the existence of the world that I live in. There is a poem from Fernando Pessoa, set to music by Luis Aute, which says: “Oh, the world is what we bring to it / everything exists because I exist / there is something because we see it. / And there is a world because I saw it!”. That “world” is not only made of lights, colors, textures, sounds, it’s not only about my point of view, it is more than a sensory perception, it is also a sentimental and rational perception of what surrounds me.
That perception is contradictory, partial, imperfect; it is essentially human.
I finally think that I make films because it is the way I’ve found to be human and to make someone else realize of it.
