Hace algunos años un director rico americano me dijo la diferencia entre films y películas: aproximadamente cincuenta millones de dólares. Entonces, nunca he hecho una película. Sólo he hecho films. Hago esto porque cuando era joven vi el trabajo de otros directores y fui inspirado para ser creativo en el modo que ellos lo eran. Pero también detesto la basura y odio las corporaciones multinacionales que arrastran nuestro planeta hermoso a su destrucción. Entonces mi tarea –mi vocación– siempre debía intentar crear cosas originales, sorprendentes, que hagan que la gente piense, y se ría, y dude, con poco o ningún dinero. Todavía trato de hacer esto. ¿Qué más puedo hacer?

Some years ago a wealthy American film director told me the difference between films and movies: it is some fifty million dollars. So I have never made a movie. I have only made films. I do this because when I was young I saw the work of other film directors and was inspired to be creative in the way they were. But I also detest waste and hate the multinational corporations which are dragging our beautiful planet to its destruction. So my assignment –my vocation–has always been to attempt to create original, surprising things, which cause people to think, and laugh, and doubt, with little or no money. I am still trying to do this. What else can I do?.
