Yo filmo porque es mi forma de expresión y de comunicar cosas y sensaciones que no siempre alcanzan para satisfacer a todo el mundo. Como diría Baltasar Gracián: “Lo bueno, si breve, es dos veces bueno”. A lo que yo agrego: “Lo breve, al decir, si es cierto, es dos veces bueno”. Filmo porque me gusta el vértigo de la filmación, la tensión de una filmación, ese segundo previo antes de gritar “ACCION” y la alegría de gritar “CORTE” cuando se está convencido que lo que se hizo está bien.
Filmo porque la camaradería que se da en un rodaje es incomparable, filmo porque es mágico estar solo escribiendo que cientos de desocupados golpean las puertas del Ministerio de Trabajo y de repente unos meses después es gritar ACCIÓN y que esos cientos de extras y actores cinematográficos están haciendo realidad aquella escritura taciturna. Filmo porque me encanta imaginar qué tipo de música, qué tipo de ambiente sonoro, qué tipo de color e imagen tendrá cada una de las escenas, que si bien forman parte de un todo, separadas en sí mismas tienen que poder contar parte de la historia. Y básicamente filmo porque me encanta.

I film because it’s my way of expressing myself and communicating things and feelings that aren’t always enough to satisfy everyone. As Baltasar Gracián would say: «Good things, if short, are twice as good.» To which I add: «Brief things, if true, are twice as good.» I film because I enjoy the frenzy of filming, the tension of filming, that second before shouting «ACTION,» and the joy of shouting «CUT» when you’re convinced that what you’ve done is right.
I film because the camaraderie that develops on a shoot is incomparable. I film because it’s magical to be alone writing about hundreds of unemployed people knocking on the doors of the Ministry of Labor, and suddenly, a few months later, I shout ACTION, and those hundreds of extras and film actors are making that taciturn scripture a reality. I film because I love imagining the kind of music, the kind of soundscape, the kind of colors and images each scene will have. While they are part of a whole, when separated, they must be able to tell part of the story. And I basically film because I love it.
