No soy esa clase de personas que tenga una gran historia para contar alrededor de este interrogante. Cuando empecé realmente lo que quería era hacer algo que fuera atractivo, interesante, cautivante, apasionante. Creo que con el tiempo me volví más crítico, más obstinado, y simplemente quiero expresarme y comunicarme con personas tratando que mi película pueda tener algún tipo de impacto sobre ellas. Así, por ejemplo, me encontré con gente que buscaba casa y me agradeció por Radiant City, porque de no haber visto mi película no habrían conseguido su casa. En este sentido, supongo que si fuera valiente, renunciaría a este negocio y haría algún trabajo social para algún hogar o algo similar.
Tuve muchos trabajos miserables donde el domingo era el peor día. Me entusiasmaba el viernes porque terminaba la semana y a la noche era divertido, al igual que el sábado. Pero el domingo era lo peor, porque se vislumbraba el lunes y me asediaba el pánico: el terror de los lunes. Para deshacerme de esa sensación comencé a filmar. Ahora no puedo esperar a que llegue el lunes, que empiece la semana, y si bien hay muchos dolores de cabeza, creo que soy un privilegiado de poder ser un cineasta y un privilegiado por poder vivir de eso, porque es un trabajo realmente divertido, y casi siempre es relajado, sin tensiones. Porque como yo escribo, trabajo desde mi casa la mayor parte del año, sentado tomando café, en mi computadora, mientras les preparo el almuerzo a mis hijos o los voy a buscar al colegio. Estoy ahí, pasando el tiempo con ellos. Es una vida relajada en verdad, y aunque a veces me frustre y me diga “ya fue, me voy de este negocio”, la verdad es que no se me ocurre qué otra cosa podría hacer, porque no soy bueno en nada, no tengo habilidades y lo único que se hacer es filmar. Es por ello que es esto lo que hago básicamente.

I’m not the kind of person that has a great story to tell about this question. When I started, what I really wanted to do was something attractive, interesting, captivating, and passionate. As time went by, I think that I became more critical, more stubborn and I just want to express myself and communicate with people trying that my film has some kind of impact on them. That’s how –for example- I met people who were looking for a place to live and thanked me for my film Radiant City, because if they wouldn’t have seen it, they wouldn’t get their houses. In that sense, I suppose if I were valiant, I would quit this business to do some kind of social work.
I had many miserable jobs, in which Sunday was the worst day. I liked Fridays because it was the last day of the week and in the evening was funny, the same on Saturday. But Sunday was the worst, because Monday was coming and I felt panic, the “Monday panic”. To end up with this sensation, I started to make films. Now I can’t wait for Mondays, to start the week, and despite many complications, I think is a privilege for me to be a filmmaker and to be able to survive doing what I like, because it is a really funny job, quite relaxing, and without tension. Because I write, I work at home almost all the year, drinking coffee on my computer, while I prepare lunch for my children or I take them back home from school. I’m there, spending my time with them. It’s a really relaxed life, and although I sometimes feel frustrated and I say to myself: “OK, I’m out of this business”, the truth is I can’t imagine anything else I could do, because I’m not good in anything, I don’t have any skill and the only thing I know is filming. That’s why this is basically what I do.
