Filmo porque me apasiona la realidad. No importa cual. Ser del Interior, de la Patagonia, implicó pertenecer a un lugar donde, en términos exitistas, “no pasaban grande cosas”. Entonces crecí observando lo pequeño, lo cercano, las historias familiares que muchas veces mi hermana menor recreaba para todos, a través de voces, personajes y estereotipos.
Filmo porque me gusta exaltar a través de la imagen todo aquello que puede resultar mínimo, vulgar o intrascendente. Y de alguna manera siento que sólo la pantalla le hace justicia, lo eleva al lugar sublime que la realidad le niega. Y esto va mucho más allá del género que elija; lo real puede ser plasmado a través del documental o de la ficción. Y esto nada tiene que ver con la verdad, sino con las cosas que suceden cuando las personas interactuamos. Me apasiona la observación de los detalles que construimos, las miserias, la belleza, lo extraño, pero por sobre todo lo real. Y el cine, desde la gestación del guión hasta su concreción en imágenes, me otorga el privilegio de recrear –manipulando, mezclando, y reinterpretando– lo que observo, para otros. Como hacía mi hermana con nosotros.
No me gustan las películas que son búsquedas o intentos. Como espectadora quiero que el director me diga claramente lo que piensa, donde está parado. Y es lo que hago cuando algo, en el orden de lo real, aparece claramente como injusto. Lo rescato de la invisibilidad para que otros también lo vean.

I make films because I’m passionate about reality. No matter which reality is. Being from the country side, Patagonia, implied belonging to a place where “nothing happened” in terms of success. So I grew up watching the little and close things, the family stories that many times my sister told us, through voices and characters.
I make films because I like to exalt through image everything that can be very little, vulgar or unimportant. And in some way, I feel that only a screen can make justice about it, to elevate it to a sublime state that reality denies to it. And this goes much far than the genre you chose; the real thing can be expressed through documentary or fiction. And this has nothing to do with truth; it is about the things that happen when people interact. I’m passionate about the details that we build, miseries, beauty, and strangeness, but above all things, reality. And cinema, since the creation of the script to its concreteness in images, gives me the privilege of recreating –manipulating, mixing and reinterpreting– what I see, for the others, as my sister did for us.
I don’t like films that are a search or a try. As a spectator, I expect that the director tells me exactly what he thinks, where he is standing. And that is what I do when something clearly unfair appears in reality; I rescue it from invisibility for the others to see it.
