Porque no podría hacer otra cosa. Porque es inevitable desde que era un niño y filmaba mis primeros cortos con mi Súper 8 Minolta. Soy un hombre muy afortunado por poder hacer cine y vivir de ello. He hecho muchas películas y, en casi todas —no en todas—, cumplí con el propósito esencial que le da sentido a las historias que elijo contar: aportar, humildemente, algo más que entretener —que es la función del cine—, crear un espejo con la pantalla donde el espectador se vea reflejado, identificado e interpelado. Me gusta ponerlo a pensar, a preguntarse, a observarse, a replantearse.
La mejor versión de mí mismo aparece en el set. Creo que esa es una respuesta más que contundente.

Because I couldn’t do anything else. Because it’s been inevitable since I was a child shooting my first short films with my Minolta Super 8. I’m a very fortunate man to be able to make films and make a living from it. I’ve made many films, and in almost all of them—not all of them—I’ve fulfilled the essential purpose that gives meaning to the stories I choose to tell: to humbly contribute something more than just entertainment—which is the function of cinema—to create a mirror with the screen where the viewer sees themselves reflected, identified with, and challenged. I like to make them think, question, observe, and rethink.
The best version of myself appears on the set. I think that’s a more than a convincing answer.
