Me encantaba hacer películas porque eran una máquina de crear emociones. Pero las plataformas y el Hollywood actual, de la mano, han destruido el arte cinematográfico. Es una industria enorme con algunas artes, excepcionalmente aquí y allá. Si quiero seguir haciendo películas, no solo debería buscar otras formas de financiarlas, sino también ser más radical en lo que hago. Estoy harta de la “narración”, el “arco narrativo” y el “vínculo emocional”. Llaman al cine “entretenimiento”. ¿Quiero entretener a la gente? Por supuesto que no. No soy una directora de circo. El cine es vivir una experiencia. Junto a mucha otra gente. En una habitación oscura, sin mirar el estúpido teléfono. Si no lo logro, exploraré otras formas de arte para expresarme.

I loved making films because they were a machine to create emotions. But the platforms and today’s Hollywood hand in hand have destroyed the art of cinema. It’s a huge industry with some arts, exceptionally here and there. If I want to continue making films, not only should I find other ways to finance them but I should also become more radical in what I do. I am sick of the “story telling”, “narrative arc” and “emotional bond”. They call cinema “entertainment”. Do I want to entertain people? Certainly not. I am not a circus director. Cinema is living an experience. Together with many other people. In a dark room where you are not watching your stupid phone. If I don’t succeed, I’ll explore other forms of art to express myself.
