Creo que hago películas porque soy un adicto y un ladrón. La sensación que adquirís cuando te das cuenta que estás capturando algo muy especial, algo que pasa sólo una vez, directamente aquí, ahora mismo, delante de tu cámara, –esa sensación es la última prisa, y realmente podés hacerte adicto a ello–. No importa cuán difícil el proceso de financiación y pre-producción haya sido hasta ese punto, esto ya no significa nada para vos. Te olvidás completamente de todo lo demás. En segundo lugar, me he dado cuenta de que mis películas documentales son casi tanto sobre mí como sobre el sujeto que retrato. No es que yo las haga para mí. Es más porque parezco escoger sujetos que tratan con el mismo tipo de problemas que estoy atravesando yo. Básicamente, robo de sus vidas tratando de conseguir respuestas a mis preguntas. Para mi audiencia, pienso que no hay ninguna respuesta en mis películas, pero esto es lo máximo que puedo hacer como artista: hacer preguntas para ellos, también.

I think I make films because I am an addict and a thief. The feeling that you get when you realize that you are capturing something very special, something that is happening only once, right here right now in front of your camera, – that feeling is the ultimate rush, and you really can get addicted it. No matter how difficult the process of financing and pre-production has been up to that point, it means nothing to you anymore. You completely forget about everything else. Secondly, I’ve come to realize that my documentary films are almost as much about me as they are about the subjects that I am portraying. It is not that I am making the people act for me in the films. It is more because I seem to choose subjects that are dealing with same sort of problems that I am going through. Basically, I steal from their lives when trying to get answers to my questions. For my audience, I think there are no answers in the films, but that’s the most that I can do as an artist: ask questions for them, too.
