¿Por qué filmo? Filmo porque no se me dió mucho el talento para tocar guitarra clásica, ni tampoco la paciencia de estar sentado escribiendo una novela de 300 páginas, ni tengo el dinero para dar la vuelta al mundo navegando en un velero, ni la destreza para cazar con mis propias manos, ni la locura para cometer un crimen pasional, ni la retórica jurídica para ser un luchador de derechos humanos, ni la imaginación de mi infancia cuando el viaje astral era posible. Filmo para olvidar el tedio de los días, tirar las cuatro paredes que el sistema quisiera imponer en mí, salir, volar, tener más de siete vidas, mentir y salirme con la mía, encantar serpientes y desaparecer.

Why do I make films? I make films because I wasn’t good enough at playing the guitar, nor was I patient enough to sit down and write a 300-pages novel, and I don’t have enough money to go around the world sailing a boat, either; I don’t have the ability to hunt with my own hands, or the insanity to commit a passionate crime, nor the legal rhetoric to be a human rights fighter, and I definitely don’t have my childhood imagination, back when taking a star journey was feasible. I make films so as to forget all about the tedious routine, to tear down the four walls that the system wants to set on me, to go out, to fly, to have more than seven lives, to lie and get away with it, to bewitch snakes and disappear.
