Realmente pensé que esta pregunta iba a ser fácil. A ver, debería serlo, ¿no? Es solo otra manera de preguntarme: ¿por qué hago lo que amo? ¿Que podría ser difícil de contestar en una pregunta cómo esa? Como pasa con mucho, ¡no lo sabía hasta que me lo preguntaron!
Para empezar, esa pregunta me hizo pensar sobre cómo es en realidad cuando estoy en medio del proceso (es una experiencia hermosa, profunda, alegre, desafiante, intoxicante, y enloquecedora) y luego, como es la vida cuando no estoy filmando (es frustrante, depresiva, sin vida, aburrida, opaca, vieja y lenta), y me puse a pensar en cuánto tiempo de mi carrera pasé en un set y cuánto tiempo no. He pasado aproximadamente 102 días de rodaje dentro de un periodo de 12 años.
Mmmmm… esa es una porción pequeña viviendo una experiencia hermosa, profunda, alegre, desafiante, intoxicante, y enloquecedora y demasiado tiempo sintiéndome frustrado, depresivo, sin vida, aburrido, opaco, viejo y lento. Sin embargo, el hechizo de hacer películas me obliga a soñar en cuándo será la próxima vez que esté en un rodaje.
Entonces, ¿por qué hago películas? Realmente no tengo idea. Supongo que debe ser el narcótico más poderoso conocido por el hombre.

I really thought this question was going to be easy… I mean it should be shouldn’t it? It’s really just another way of asking me “why do I do what I love?” What could be difficult about answering a question like that? A lot as it happens, I just didn’t know it until I was asked!
For a start, the question made me think about what it’s like when I’m actually in the midst of making a film (it’s a beautiful, profound, joyous, challenging, intoxicating, maddening experience) and then, what life’s like when I’m not (it’s a frustrating, depressing, lifeless, boring, dull old slog) and then I got to thinking about how much time I’ve spent on a film set and how much time I haven’t over my career and the stats were revealing: I’ve been on a film set approx 102 days over a 12 year period…
Hmmm. That’s a very small slice of time feeling beautiful / profound / joyous / challenged / intoxicated / maddened AND an awful lot of time feeling frustrated / depressed / lifeless / bored / dull…. And ‘yet’ the spell of making films still compels me to dream of the next time I will be on that film set.
So, why do I make films…? I genuinely have no idea. I guess it must be the most powerful narcotic known to man.
