Tal vez porque siempre he fotografiado a la gente y a lugares para entenderlas.
Tal vez porque es una manera de abrazar, buscar, cuestionar, y lidiar con el mundo a nuestro alrededor, y con la gente en el, con cierto amor que no será negado ni brutalizado.
Tal vez porque cuando filmas capturas la vida y la reformas a través de la edición.
Tal vez porque un rostro humano, un gesto, un error, un árbol, una nube pasando pasando frente al sol, la lluvia tambaleando, el viento soplando demasiado fuerte, y los detalles invisibles los puedo ver y filmar para siempre, porque hablan del mundo sin decir una palabra.
Tal vez porque las películas son como la música, se te meten debajo de la piel sin permiso y sin ninguna explicación.
Tal vez porque por más que cueste lo que sea, para mí es el lugar más seguro del mundo, justo detrás de las cámaras, con tiempo y espacio que nos pertenece a nosotros: a mí y a la gente que filmo, y a nadie más, como un amorío.
Tal vez porque si trabajamos duro, hacemos lo mejor, no hacemos trampa, o intentar seducir, la película funcionará como un show de magia: juntará a completos extraños y encontrará su propia familia alrededor del mundo.

Maybe because I’ve always photographed people or places to understand them.
Maybe because it’s a way of embracing, searching, questioning, and coping with the world around, the people in it, with a certain love that won’t be denied or brutalized.
Maybe because through filming you capture life and reshape it through editing.
Maybe because a human face, a gesture, a mistake, a tree, a cloud passing in front of the sun, the rain stumbling down, the wind blowing too strong, and all the small invisible details, I can watch and film for ever because they speak the world without words.
Maybe because films are like music, they get under your skin without any permission or explanation.
Maybe because no matter how hard it can be, it’s the safest place in the world for me, right there behind the camera, with time and space that belongs to us, me and the people I’m filming, and no one else, like in a love affair.
Maybe because if we work hard, do our best, don’t cheat, or try to seduce, the film will work like a magic act, and gather complete strangers, find it’s own family around the world.
